White County Courthouse Museum - Cleveland GA

The old White County Courthouse was completed in 1859 - two years after the new county was formed.   The prime contractor for the building was E. P. Williams.  Bricks for the building were manufactured from local clay by slave labor fired in a kiln near the foot of Yonah Mountain.  The walls of the building are 16 inches thick at ground level.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places the museum is open to the public free of charge Thursday-Saturday from 10:00 - 3:00 and operated by White County Historical Society.  Some items in the building include:  a printing press; a wooden hand loom, several spinning wheels, old folk pottery, and a collection of old newspapers.  There is also a Military Room.
Everyone welcome.
