Once a wild and reckless thoroughfare for the delivery of illegal moonshine, Highway 197 is now a destination for unique shops featuring local fine art and craft, restaurants serving the best of native cuisine, and cozy lodging beckoning you to stay a while.

The road begins at US76 and the visitor will first come upon the 2,800-acre Lake Burton whose sparkling clear waters are surrounded by majestic mountain vistas.  Moccasin Creek State Park, on the shores of Lake Burton provides opportunities to visit the adjacent trout hatchery, to camp, hike, or just relax and bring a picnic.
